This picture was taken in 2008 at Gulf Shores, Alabama. We decided to use this picture to start our story about the dream of the farm. We’ve been married since our early 20’s so no need to try to cover all the decades, just that which is relevant to the farm.
We had begun talking of what we would want to do during our retirement years in the months preceding this vacation to Gulf Shores. While on our trip, which we took with much of our extended family, we saw a documentary which one of our nieces had written and filmed. The documentary featured a sustainable farm which included a goat dairy.
As we returned from vacation the dairy just kept coming up in various ways and we continued to pray about and research the idea. While attending the Bible study, Experiencing God, we were challenged to see where God is working and seek how we are to join Him. We believe God was using this study to show us that we needed to be at work on the farm. So, Annette turned in her resignation at the bank where she was employed and the first step was taken toward establishing the dairy.
Over the next several months much research was done and resources identified for establishing the dairy. Plans were submitted to the Health Department and approved. Goats were researched and we were blessed with a mentor and a support group. Well actually two support groups, the Central Texas Dairy Goat Assn. as well as our family and church family.
In March of 2009 we purchased our first goats and on April 29, 2009 we were certified by the Health Department as a Grade A Raw for Retail Dairy! The next few years have been a blur of goats, baby goats, milking, more baby goats and more milk. And, a wonderful array of customers whom we might not otherwise have had the pleasure of meeting.
Also during this time period, our sons have grown and moved on to follow their own dreams. So, most of the time it is just the two of us with all the goats. We are blessed with family in many ways, from the families into which we were born, our two sons whom we adopted, the many friends and neighbors who love and encourage us and the variety of customers who drop by to purchase the wonderful milk the goats provide. So while we do not have a large family working Coursey Family Farm we have family in many ways.
Thank you for stopping in to visit our web site and we would love to have you visit the farm as well and enjoy some of our sweet goat milk.
